My highlight today was playing a track from the Jane Fonda Workout Record. I just got it and thought it was hilarious and the first song is the Jackons - Can You Feel It. Great song plus funny over-dub of Jane Fonda, I couldn't resist. I was afraid it might irritate people and I'd get complaints, but I think everyone else thought it was funny too. Just now i was searching the internet for an image of the album cover, and found this picture, which is actually a scrapbook that someone made from the album cover, LOL. Nice. And thanks to nilufar for letting me know about jane fonda's recent award:

"The 60th Cannes film festival, which wrapped up Sunday, awarded a Palme d'Or for lifetime achievement to veteran US actress and activist Jane Fonda over the weekend. The exceptional Golden Palm prize, awarded by festival chief Gilles Jacob, had only been awarded three times before since 1946, to French directors Alain Resnais and Gerard Oury and the French actress Jeanne Moreau."

I decided that after playing the Jacksons, some more 70's R&B would be good.

Playlist - 05/24/2007 - JFK + Nature Sounds

Whoops, I can't believe I forgot for four days to put in my play list. I played some JFK speeches in honor of his birthday coming up this week. I didn't know what year he was born, but Bruno called to tell me JFK was born in 1917, died in 1963 at 46 years old. So he would've been 90 this week.

I also found a nature sounds CD this week, so I had a funny idea (I thought) to mix nature sounds in during the speeches. So it would be like JFK was talking in a forest by a stream, or like you were listening to the speeches in the forest by a stream. I got one email saying it was very annoying, LOL. Sorry.

The English Beat show was great! It's so fun to go to a concert where you know the band's every single song. That doesn't happen for me too often. And they're all great songs. And Dave Wakeling is very cool, I got to say hi to him after the show, which I also don't normally do. So it was a great time!

Today I played some electronic favorites and half of a EuroHit 40. I would've liked to play this funny fake-German song by the Tygorz that my brother sent me a link to, but it seems not quite FCC acceptable. Although he heard it on the radio which made us wonder why they think they can play it and I think we can't. The definition of obscene material is open to the FCC's interpretation, so I guess its just up to each DJ/station to decide how risky they think certain material is. I really didn't need to play it that bad, so definitely not worth the risk for me.

Oh yes, also check out Moby's Body Rock video!

Playlist - 05/10/2007 - Dave Wakeling

Today was one of my favorite shows I've done, and the "Space Show" was one too, so its been a good few weeks. The highlight today was being able to air an interview with Dave Wakeling, lead singer of one of my favorite all-time bands, The English Beat. I've uploaded it as an MP3, so listen to it here!. Dave was a great guy and I really enjoyed talking to him. I can't wait to see English Beat perform at Harrah's tomorrow!

Then I played several English Beat songs and other ska songs. And....I played the song timber, which is a great song, but an even greater video:

Did I mention I've been spending a lot of time on YouTube lately :-)

Congrats to all the ticket winners! And I had lots of callers today, and a studio visit from Howard. Thanks to everyone! Hope to see you at the show!

Big news in the station this week is that we have a new general manager, Richard Pirodsky. He's from New York, and has got lots of radio experience. Since I've been at the station (2+ years), this is our second manager and we've had 3 interim mangers. Hopefully he'll hold the spot for a while.

Today had an 80's theme to it for two reasons.
1) I found vinyl versions this weekend of Herbie Hancock's "Future Shock" with Rockit (check out this article) , and Bob and Doug McKenzie's "Take off".
2) The English Beat is coming to town! I gave away some tickets today and I'll have more next week. I may try to do an interview too, we'll see.
