some station engineers had to do some maintenance work on the transmitter during my show today, so i was only on-air until about 11:15. but we were still streaming on the internet and we never know for sure when we'll be back on-air, so we just keep the show rolling. i may replay some of the off-air songs next week, i hope the web listeners don't mind a few repeats.

i didn't realize that today was lincoln's AND darwin's birthday until "blind guy" called in to let me know. so i learned that, and also i was playing some canadian artists (feist and lhasa and fusion body) and didn't realize that chromeo was canadian until i saw on the feist cd that chromeo remixed one of her tracks, then looked it up and they are from montreal. so i learned a lot today. i played the chromeo remix and so i got in a total of 4 canadian artists. also some ska and reggae and some funk and disco.

for disco, i didn't play this particular song from saturday night fever, but maybe i should have. this is maybe the best movie dance scene ever?!?!?

We had a mini fund drive this week. so i helped pitch through the news shows from 8:30 to 10:00 and then two more hours for my show. i had others sitting in with me much of the time so that makes it more enjoyable. its still a bit stressful and i was getting discouraged about half way through. but some good donations came in later and my show ended up raising a decent amount, so i wasn't totally depressed at the end.

i got in some good electronic stuff, a few funk tracks, and a couple more soca. for the funk, i played a song from ocean's 12 called "l.s.d. partie". i didn't realize until looking on youtube just now that the song was actually from 1969. it was apparently used in the soundtrack for a french movie from around then that looks pretty interesting

the kkfi studio is moved! i spent a good part of the weekend there with some others, moving computers, getting the network working, building racks for equipment.... long process but it was a lot of fun to be there for the switchover and the first broadcast from the new location on sunday.

so this was my first show there. the mic levels may still be a little low, and the audio computer touch screen is flaky, and a few other small things, but basically all went well.

crazy day yesterday with the station since we're moving this weekend. i was at the old location from 8:30 to noon for they syndicated shows + my show. then i got a sandwich and went to a 1 o clock meeting until a little after 2. then i went to the new station location so that i could train people on the new audio board at 3. i thought our audio computer system would be moved by then, but it wasn't. i then discovered that the project manager thought i was the one who was moving it, lol. so after the training ended at 4:30, i went back to the new location and broke down (with help) the 3 computers needed, then unloaded them at the new location. got some dinner at 6:30, then went back and set up the 3 computers (with help) and the rack to hold them. finished at 9:30 and then went to watch some djs at a nearby bar for an hour. whew.

whoops! i see that i never posted my play list for Thanksgiving. i guess i was distracted by making a turkey when i got home. it was a fun show because i had my brother and my niece on with me and i had them each pick music. matt picked 8 songs that had to do with using the voice as an instrument - throat singing, yodeling, singing in gibberish... and miranda picked coldplay and the jonas brothers and m.i.a.. i also played some other music that we all like. and started the show with some native american music.

by request of richard russell, i played "i wish (i was a little bit taller)" from a krafty kuts mix cd that i love. and the song before it on the cd was great, so i played that. and some 80's reggae: shinehead! in college i had that shinehead album on one side of a tape with kool moe dee's "knowledge is king" on the other. i played the heck out of that tape. just finally got the shinehead cd.

i got a great new indian hip-hop cd last week by "mc yogi". most all of his songs revolve around the hindu god ganesh, who is an elephant. so the cd is called "elephant power". its both amusing and good music. one song is called "ganesh is fresh", LOL

also had damon alburn's new project: monkey. some fabric live stuff, and a euro hit 40 that included madonna's new song, "give it 2 me", co-produced by Pharell. I love it! I'd say the video is not one of her better ones, pretty boring by her standards. But here it is:
