started my show today with 30 minutes of tracks that i learned of through EuroHit 40, the radio netherlands countdown show. a few of the tracks are electronic kids songs, including one from the crazy kids show called Lazytown. then there's the holly dolly song. i got two calls from people who loved the holly dolly song, and i had one the last time i played it too, so it may be the most well liked song i've ever played on my show, which is hilarious because its so bizarre. i can't help but like it too. and the video is plenty bizarre as well. the singer is supposed to be a donkey, and who knows what that other creature is who is trying to kill the other creatures, LOL. so here it is:

the song i was most excited to play today was 20 dollar by m.i.a., which is basically a cool remix of new order's blue monday. i'd never played it before because it has the word s*** in it twice. but i decided that it was good enough that it was worth doing some live editing. so i just faded it out briefly during the objectionable parts. i was a little nervous about it but all went well. i don't think there is an official video for the song online, but here is an unofficial video that is just a slide show of m.i.a. pictures. i like the one where she's wearing a sonic the hedgehog t-shirt, lol

i got a great new cd from the station. the band is called funkadesi and they fuse reggae and Indian music. they're from chicago, so their promo material has a quote/review from barack obama, lol. barack says "funkadesi really knows how to get a crowd going. I can't say enough about how energizing this band is. there's a lot of funk in that desi"

so after that i played some other indian music, and then some more run dmc (king of rock) since that went over well last week. then some ska, neil diamond, and some electronic.

i had a little contest on today's show to see who could name the song sampled in Rev Run's (Run of RUN DMC) song "mind on the road". i had a few callers correctly identify it as joan jett's "i love rock n roll". they all loved the song, and so did i, so i think i'll play it again next week and some more run dmc. also got to play more of my new favorite cd, chromeo's "fancy footwork". here's the video for the song i played, "you're so gangsta". it's odd, but everything they do seems a little odd:
