Played a little halloween themed music since halloween is saturday. also the station is having a halloween fundraising event with the band bcr, so "duck" from bcr was a guest and we played a few bcr tracks plus one from sun ra.
tonight kathleen and josh and i are going to see tiesto! he's supposed to be one of the best, if not the best, dj in the world. the tour video (below) is awesome. hopefully we're not the very oldest ones there :-) time to start hitting the coffee.

did something new on the air today. i read dave zirin's column "the edge of sports". if our programming committee approves, then i'm hoping that in the future i can pre-record it weekly and then it can be played during other shows on our station too. this week's column was about rush limbaugh's bid to buy the saint louis rams (with his investment group). here is a link to the column.

started the show with some older favorites - nightmares on wax, theivery corporation, nickodemus. got into some african music, some funk, etc. part of the african music was amadou & miriam's "Le Réalité". they are a blind couple from mali and their whole cd, "dimanche a bamako", is excellent. this is a good video of them preforming live, too bad it isn't a little louder.

did not end up going to see moby's midnight dj set last week. decided i would save my limited late-night DJ viewing power for Tiesto in a couple weeks.
i played the october euro hit 40 today. it had several songs that were performed at the ALMA (american latino media awards) awards in september, which i just happened to catch when flipping through channels. one that was performed at the ALMA's that wasn't featured on euro hit 40 was pitbull's "i know you want me". it's a decent song, not great, so i couldn't decide whether or not to play it to complete the theme. i decided to play it and got a call saying that song was already overplayed all over corporate radio right now :-) oh well. that was kinda funny. also had mike murphy at the station take a picture of me with the euro hit 40 case so that maybe they will send me some t-shirts to give away.
besides that, played more from my current favorite CDs - the new cornershop and scott hardkiss. and soca music in honor of rio getting the olympic games. here's another of my favorites from the new cornershop.

i was out of town last week and it was pledge drive time, so i pre-recorded my pledge drive show. i found out today that i only got one pledge, so that was depressing. but at least it was a good one for a guest dj spot. not sure if the pre-recording had anything to do with it, but it couldn't have helped. the whole fund drive total was quite low and i guess other people had bad results similar to mine. so hopefully for me it was just a reflection of the economy.
this week i played some new music from a new artist, scott hardkiss. one of his great songs is "the underwater ball", so then i played a few other ocean/sea related songs, including the f.u.n. song by spongebob and plankton :-) also some classic rock covers and a little classic rock. and played some moby since he will be doing a dj set in kansas city tomorrow night at the beaumont. kathleen and i are not happy that it starts at 11:30 pm, but we will try to suck it up and go. josh is going too. could be fun. video i played was body rock, which is a hilarious video
