Playlist - 04/05/2007

Today was a lot of fun. i got lots of calls and got to play from the new euro hit 40 program CD! (even though it skipped and i had to start it over). On the euro hit 40 CD was this hilarious fun German song called Papa Pinguin by pigolo. The dj on the show talks about dancing penguins, so i looked it up on youtube, and i found the video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKG08z85DtY

i was all excited that i'd found this new german music and i showed the video to my 7 year old niece and she said "oh yeah, those are the penguins that sing YMCA in french". sure enough, there is another video, same artist, with a song to the tune of YMCA, but its "I love to ski", in French. so i guess i should be taking music suggestions from my niece from now on, LOL.

Playlist - 03/29/2007 - Spring fund drive

This week is the fund drive. $500 was raised during my show. that's only half of what we got during my show in the fall, so that was disappointing. Seems to be that way for everyone this time, the drive as a whole is way behind last drive. Bummer. I've also been going in to answer phones and pitch with people on their shows. that part is kinda fun, but i'll still be glad when its all over. hopefully we'll at least make enough to last until next drive!

The best part was getting a pledge from a military person, Matt, stationed in Kuwait. Awesome to know someone there is listening! And also from a nice woman in Alabama, who called in to say hi too. And from Kathleen, Patricia, Dave, Mary, Rodena, and more. thanks everyone!

Play list - 03/22/2007

Thanks to everyone who called in: Walter, Ray, Pat, Howard, Jim, others... I felt a little crazy playing Madonna on my show, since she's so main stream. Thought there might be some backlash. But I got no hate calls, so that's good :-) I really think Ray of Light and Hollywood and Music all have good electronic dance songs on them. No surprise since the producers are great electronic artists.

Good video too. The quality here isn't great, but good enough to see that Madonna is hot :-) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZkQwIhcgqw

Play list - 03/15/2007 - Band auction

Last week was the band auction. It went more smoothly than I was worried it would. I had 4 bands in: The New Alligators, Kevin Hiatt, OK Jones, and Applebutta. All were very cool. Kevin played his 12-string guitar live in the studio.

Then in two weeks is the fund drive. So two weeks of music in between fund raising events. St. Patrick's Day is Friday. My tribute to that was also the weekly cover song: Luck of the Irish.

Played from two new CD's. Air's new one, which seems only so-so, and Sia's live one, though I played the studio cut.

Today felt really chaotic because I thought I was going to be giving away Steel Pulse tickets, but they weren't in my mail slot when I got there. So I was holding off on playing the Steel Pulse giveaway song, waiting to hear what the deal was, and then one of my CD's didn't work, and then I accidentally stopped a song and had to restart it....I'm blaming being sick for the bad days this week and last. But finally I got the info on the tickets halfway through and was able to give them away. Congratulations Mary!

Also, thanks to Six Degrees Records for sending me a nice batch of stuff. Only got to one of them at the very end today, but more will come soon.

Play list - 01/25/2007

I got a kick out of pulling out my old "Dr. Detroit" album on vinyl today. Devo, James Brown, Dan Akroyd, Fran Drescher as a sexy high-class call girl...this movie had it all! I just found the video on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5aEBT3l3qg

the low point of the show was saying that the "what's happening" theme song was the "good times" theme song. :-( I didn't have it written down right, but Mike Murphy and a caller set me straight. Thanks!

Or maybe the low point was not being able to get the record player to work the first time i tried it, even after i thought i'd tested it. That's two too many low points :-( I hope everyone still enjoyed the show.

On today's show, I played my first record on-air (madness: one step beyond). interesting differences from cd. I thought at first that i'd have to attempt to get the needle between songs while on air, but instead, to "pause" before the right track, i just had to play the record to the right part while off-air, then stop the turntable, then start it when i was ready to play the song. luckily there was enough of a gap between tracks to let the turntable get up to speed, but it was a direct drive, so i guess those get up to speed very fast. is this how they did it before cd's? Or did they always play 45's?

The station has been looking better every time I go in. First Deb had the whole place painted inside, then she got new furniture for the "green room". Very cool to see the improvements.

I decided to play a lot of dance music in the second hour and I didn't have many commercials to interrupt it, so that was a fun hour. Thanks to Mel and Reed for calling in during that hour, and to my friend Jim aka "Blind Guy" for calling earlier.

Here's a link to the video of the Bollywood song I played! Such a funny movie...

One other funny thing, at the end of the show someone called in to complain that I played a song that said "nigga nigga nigga" in it. I was sure that wasn't true, but I certainly own a lot of songs with that word in them, and i could've just missed it, so i wasn't 100% sure. but i finally realized it was "mega mega..." from Born Slippy, LOL
